Dylan Cara McLean

"I believe in simple solutions to sophisticated design."

With a background in art history and a recent degree in Industrial design, I have developed an analytical eye. And, as someone who listens and understands clients needs, I am both a creative force and a team player.

My thoughtful approach to life makes communication easy and effective so I am often sought out by others to problem-solve and help make decisions.

With my adaptability and openness to new ideas it is my goal to be involved in innovative projects. I want to create friendly spaces where people will feel at ease and can live in harmony with their environments.

As someone who lives in a small Montreal apartment, I know that space can be limited, and that organization is essential. I am always on the go between school and work and I find myself always looking for my personal items. Therefore, creating a product that can be compact and give users easy access to their everyday items can be useful for many.

It is important to try and create a product that can be adaptable to different environments and is also lightweight and easy to put together. This design requires 1 screw and is easy to assemble and disassemble. I wanted to create a product that users can easily bring from one apartment to another and that would stay in good condition.

HANDLE DESIGN: FAUCET

1/1

While exploring the existing outdoor faucets on the market I noticed that many of the models are uncomfortable in the hand and hard to manipulate. Since most of these handles spend the entire year outside in our variable environment, they can be difficult to open at the beginning of the spring.  I created something that gives the hand multiple contact points to facilitate the movement of turning the handle. I also by using a floral shape simulated the nature that might surrounds an outdoor faucet. By making it larger and in plastic it becomes a more ergonomic product.  There are 2 caps that can function as a pair if you have access to 2 different water temperatures outside. They help the user to quickly identify the taps.
